We got a comment a couple of days ago from the guys at Artery Gallery News, thanks for the comment So I thought what we’d do is have a wee look at the blog and see what we thought of it. It is the blog for the amin Artery gallery website.

What’s Artery Gallery News all about?

The blog is all about the stuff that the guys are getting up to in their art gallery. Shows pieces of art such as paintings and jewellery that they’ve got and gives you some info on who designed them.

Why would you use it?

If you’re looking to invest in Scottish art, espescially up and coming artists, it could well be a good place to start. With the links going into the main website its really easy to get quickly to related piecse of art and find out much more about the artist etc.

Stand out posts…

Well the blogs not been running too long - it only has 13 posts on it so far. But I did like the post about the paintings of Colin Carruthers. It is a pain to get to internally as the posts links go back to the main website rather than pointing to the internal pages so getting the link was a bit of a pain - I had to use the side navigation! This makes navigating to it a bit difficult.

How good is it as a blog?

On the downside points off for the navigation issue listed above. the blog is in blogger which makes posting comments a bit annoying, its also got negative text which can be hard to read. Its also gone a bit social media button mad with every page
having links to god knows how many websites through buttons.

I really like this blog for its content - as it makes an effort to engage with the user on a personal level. It links to appropriate material on other websites - their own. But I’m no art buff and some of the language is a bit impenetrable. Its like a blog thats not written as a blog its written as an online press release.

Overall its a case of a good idea to support a good business but due to some design, navigation and language flaws this blog has some way to go to be a Great British Blog.

When I setup this blog one of the things I was looking for was someone to do it for me: the same way as I can go to WordPress.com and get it done in seconds. When I got into having to get a host and get someone to deal with domain names etc it became a bit frightening. Espescially when I started trying to work out what an FTP client was!
The guys who helped me set this up did a sterling job (god that sounds like promotion and its not meant to be) but I’m sure there are lots of great companies/platforms I could be trying out.

I’m looking to setup some more blogs, and I’m looking to test out different services/companies, who specialise in blog set up and hosting in the next couple of months. If you are or know of one please let me know in the comments below.
If you know of qany companies that help to set up blogs, or you et them up yourself, let me know in the comments and I’ll give you a call.
